Why So Many Supplements Don't Work: The Absorption Problem | Barbara La Pointe & Kevin J. David | Episode 2
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
In Episode 2 of the Healing Forward Wellness Spotlight Series, Barbara La Pointe and Kevin J. David discuss one of the biggest frustrations in wellness: why many supplements fail to deliver the results people expect.
Just because you take a supplement doesn't mean your body is actually using it.
In this episode, we explore absorption, bioavailability, and why delivery systems play a critical role in helping the body utilize nutrients effectively. Learn why so many people invest in wellness products without seeing results, and why understanding how nutrients are delivered may be just as important as the ingredients themselves.
In this episode, we discuss:
• What bioavailability means
• Why absorption matters
• Common challenges with traditional supplements
• The difference between taking a supplement and utilizing it
• Why delivery systems are becoming a major focus in wellness
• How smarter wellness starts with understanding absorption
If you've ever spent money on supplements and wondered whether they were actually working, this episode is for you.
If today's conversation resonated with you and you've ever wondered whether your supplements are truly working for you, I'd love to connect.
Throughout this Wellness Spotlight Series, Kevin J. David and I have been exploring the importance of cellular wellness, glutathione, and innovative delivery technologies designed to help support the body's natural processes.
If you're curious about the glutathione wellness solution we've discussed, or you're interested in learning more about how smarter delivery systems may support your wellness goals, reach out to me, Barbara La Pointe, for a complimentary wellness conversation.
Sometimes the most important question isn't what you're taking—it's what your body is actually able to use.
Until next time, keep moving forward.

We are full of healing is not a destination. It's a decision that we make every single day. So let's move forward together. Three, two, one. Let's get started. Well, welcome back to the Healing Forward Wellness Spotlight series. I'm Barbara LePointe, your host, and once again I'm joined by Kevin, wellness expert, and my collaborator in these conversations around smarter practical wellness. Hey Kevin.
SPEAKER_01Hey, how are you, Barb?
SPEAKER_00Good. Well, welcome back.
SPEAKER_01Well, you know what? I'm always happy to be here.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's so nice to be with you. I love our time together, and I loved that today we're talking about something that women feel but may not fully understand, and that's stress. Because I think so many women think stress is just emotional. Uh like I'm overwhelmed, I have too much on my plate, uh, I'm anxious. I hear that one a lot, Kevin. I'm anxious, anxiety, but stress is doing more than affecting our mood, isn't it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, absolutely. And you know, it it it affects us on such an incredible level. Uh not just, you know, uh not just on that level, for example, or say, for example, your mood, but stress is also biochemical, it changes how the body functions and chronic stress, especially prolonged stress, can quietly accelerate the aging process uh in the body.
SPEAKER_00Oh such an important conversation because if someone listening says, Barbara, I'm not sleeping, or my joints are starting to feel stiff, uh, my energy crashes, brain fog is a big one, uh, even my patients is is wearing thin. Like these type of uh symptoms, they may not be random.
SPEAKER_01No, 100%. It's kind of like, oh, my stomach feels off or something like that, right? So those are signs that the body is under sustained pressure for sure. And unfortunately, stress impacts all of these types of areas, right? Whether it be hormones, sleep, inflammatory pathways, energy production, these types of things. So it's important that if we want to support the immune system, uh, mental clarity, uh, and these types of things, that we have to have and make sure we have something to keep uh keep this all connected, if that makes any sense.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Uh yes, it does, Kevin. Because um, let's talk even more deeply and honestly about women. I mean, you're a man, and this conversation is also useful for the men out there. We love, we love men. But we're we've really we've really uh we're focusing on women because the stress that women carry is more than just deadlines, they do a lot of emotional caregiving in our society, and there's family stress, financial stress, relationship stress, and the midlife transitions, uh, aging parents. The list goes on and on. And of course, in my practice, I see many that are dealing with divorce, toxic breakups, and all of this happening while they're trying to look normal and carrying all of that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, a hundred percent. And you know, you mentioned that both for both for your uh for your ladies' listeners out there uh and men, I mean, I've I've got this thing uh in the back of my head all the time. You know, women start dealing with a perimenopause, menopause, postmenopause. Uh I've got my own kind of thing when it comes to uh age and stress and stuff like that. I call it menopause. And the funny thing is, your body doesn't separate uh the emotional stress from physical stress, right? Um, you know, it just interprets load, right? And how our bodies deal with that and what that load remains. And when that load remains actually too high for too long, the body adapts. That might be the case, but not in a way that is going to support a thriving body or mind or this type of thing.
SPEAKER_00Yes. I mean, that word load, it really landed with me because I think women often say, I should be able to handle this. But maybe it's not weakness, maybe it's just uh the load, the the toll is just simply too high.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, a hundred percent. Uh feel exactly the way you do. Uh, you know, and culturally, many women are rewarded for pushing through, right? Um where that's not really the case down deep, you know, but pushing through indefinitely becomes uh indefinitely comes at a cost. I mean, there's there's gonna be something, you know, uh break loose sooner or later, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, a hundred percent. Kevin, let's talk about cortisol because everyone throws that word around. Uh TikTok, social media, like is cortisol the villain?
SPEAKER_01No, absolutely not. Cortisol isn't bad at all. It's essential uh for life. You know, it helps regulate energy, alertness, stress response, these types of things, right? You know, the um the issue is really chronic um elevation or you know, dysregulation, if that makes any sense. You know, and when stress becomes constant, um, there's a whole ton of things that take place in the body uh where it causes your body, of course, to lose balance.
SPEAKER_00Exactly, a hundred percent. And this is exactly why women can feel wired but exhausted, tired but unable to sleep, hungry and craving sugar, or just emotionally flattened.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, 100%. You know, and and because energy is low in that situation, people often reach out for quick fits fixes, like whether it be caffeine or sugar, or you know, they stay up later or this type of thing, they skip doing stuff during the day, where whether it be, you know, riding a bike or going for a walk or whatever the case may be, and you know what that causes is for that cycle to deepen.
SPEAKER_00And I think that's where women really begin to feel defeated because they think, well, I'm trying uh my best, I'm surviving. And why are things just you know getting worse or not not improving?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, 100%. Well, I mean, you know, that's because survival mode isn't just designed to, you know, to feel designed to feel vibrant, right? It's designed to get you through an immediate stress. It's fight or flight, right? Not years of it, you know, of course, but uh it kind of gives you a bit of an idea.
SPEAKER_00Exactly, exactly. And that's so powerful. And I think there's an even another emotional layer when women don't feel well, they often blame themselves, like somehow they're failing.
SPEAKER_01Well, isn't that funny? That happens all the time, right? But psychology isn't isn't moral, you know, and you know, being exhausted doesn't mean you're weak at all. Absolutely not. In fact, it means it actually gives value uh that your body's in fact communicating, if that makes sense.
SPEAKER_00Yes, it that makes a lot of sense because if we can go back and really remember and be aware that our bodies actually love us, and our bodies are always communicating with us, they're not betraying us, but they're actually loving us, and that communication is key.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, absolutely. You couldn't have said it better.
SPEAKER_00Like the truth is, um, switching gears here a bit, but when groceries are expensive and life feels uncertain, wellness can feel confusing. Uh, do you see that, Kevin?
SPEAKER_01Well, you know, uh I I feel exactly that you've hit it right in the right on the button. You know, energy changes everything, right? So when you don't have good energy, there are going to be some challenges of some sort, right? And that's just what happens. It's it's that almost becomes the new normal.
SPEAKER_00The new normal. Well, always back to the absolute truth. Health is wealth, and our health is even it's so precious. It's so precious. Uh, this episode isn't meant to scare anyone, it's just simply meant to say, like, listen, pay attention, and let's get curious. Support our body under all this stress because the stress does matter. Kevin, thank you for being here today.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. Thank you, Barb. It's been an absolute pleasure.
SPEAKER_00If you know a woman who's been saying, Hey, I just don't feel like myself lately, share this episode. Keep listening because next, Kevin and I are tackling a big one. Why so many women spending money on supplements and still feeling terrible? See you in the next episode. Healing doesn't happen all at once. It happens in moments like these. Wherever you are in your personal journey, honor it. If this episode meant something to you, share it, leave us a review, and stay connected for more conversations that move us forward. Until next time, I'm Barbara LePoint, and remember, keep healing forward.
